Steel belt elevator is a type of elevator that uses flat composite steel belts instead of traditional steel wire ropes as the traction medium. Its core advantages include quiet operation and hoistway space saving, making it especially suitable for residential villas and low-rise buildings.
Quiet operation and smooth ride. The polyurethane elastic layer isolates hard metal-to-metal friction and absorbs vibration, delivering low operating noise and minimal resonance. Even when installed next to bedrooms, it barely disturbs household rest. The start, stop and lifting experience is gentler.
Hoistway space saving, compatible with compact hoistways / machine-room-less designs. Steel belts feature a small bending radius, enabling the use of traction sheaves with smaller diameters and a more compact traction machine. It requires lower overhead height and pit depth, ideal for retrofitting old buildings and villas with narrow hoistways, and facilitates machine-room-less solutions.

Oil-free operation, simple maintenance and clean hoistway. No lubricating oil needs to be applied to steel belts, so there is no oil dripping to contaminate the hoistway and periodic oiling work is eliminated. The outer polyurethane layer protects steel wires against rust and corrosion.
Longer service life. Steel wires are fully encapsulated in polyurethane to reduce bending fatigue and wear. Under normal working conditions, the service life can reach 2 to 3 times that of conventional steel wire ropes, with low risk of strand breakage and wire fraying.
Excellent safety performance. The flat structure creates surface contact with the traction sheave, offering a large friction area, sufficient traction force and low risk of slipping or groove disengagement. Multiple fine steel wires work in parallel for redundancy, paired with a steel belt monitoring system to track belt conditions in real time.
Energy saving and lightweight. The overall weight of steel belts is about 20% lighter than steel wire ropes of the same load capacity, reducing the load on the traction machine and lowering rotational inertia, which cuts power consumption during elevator operation.
